I was thinking about what I had done the other day. And even if you don’t consider my impetuous youth, where I worked as a teenager on Radio Television Brunei and Inner FM in Australia, I have really been around. And I never had any protection…
I was hired in 1990 for Perfect 10 98.7, transferred within 2 weeks to Class 95 where I did the evening drive show. Then I was moved up to mornings in 1992. Was transferred to Radio One 90.5 for 6 months to spruce up their evening show, and then it was back at Class 95’s Morning Express with Melissa Hyak.
in 1994, my new partner was Jessica Soo. In 1996 she was replaced by The Flying Dutchman who was joined by Audrey Ying for a short time.
In 2000, I was the highest-paid part-timer in radio, on the no.1 show on the no.1 radio station and what did I do? I had an attack of the principles and quit.
I took a pay-cut and took up something I swore I wouldn’t do – I joined management - at Power 98 while still doing mornings with Hamish Brown and Denise Tan. By 2002, the management thing had almost completely killed my will to live, so I retired myself from the radio race.
Unfortunately, as I listened to radio, I was soon overwhelmed with the buay tahan feeling (I cringed at what was passing for morning radio) and so I threw myself at Power 98 (for even less money) – and got going with an amazing (in my opinion) show with Maggie Lim.
Then in 2006, just as, the Power morning show was just getting some traction with the audience… I did the unthinkable.
I quit again. (I just don’t learn!)
I joined WKRZ 91.3 – which was, according to my friends, the ultimate WTF move – WKRZ was then known as the techno station. But I really thought there was potential in a revamped station. And so, like a 30-something with sagging boobs and a bad reputation, Radio 913 was born after some massive reconstructive surgery. Unfortunately, when my all-time best radio partner Petrina Kow quit, the plastic surgeon in residence decided it was time for more work. And so I too was replaced by bigger boobs.
But being the persistent slut, I immediately set up a hook up with an old (radio) flame.
Well you know how things can get… One thing led to another and now we’re going steady… and I’ll be doing it with new partners too starting Monday – Shareen Wong and Hossan Leong on Power 98.
I hope they don’t snore.

joining WKRZ wasnt a wtf move at all by all means, ‘cos for one full year you had us hooked on that station in the mornings, both you and petrina…
really had thought the station was seeing light at the end of the tunnel, moving in the right direction, and then now they plunged themselves back into the darkness…

Since your depart from 91.3, i’ve almost stopped listening to them. I started listening to Power 98 to prep myself for whole day listening. Who was this dj after 10am? He’s ok too.
Think i’m starting to adapt to the station while awaiting for your return to POWER!
Thanx for the history, I only knew you from Morning Express days and when u left then, i knew there was smthg missing from that show. Took years before i found you on Power 98 and switch w you to 91.3FM.
You done your part, you build their listenership. Now that they decided for bigger boobs, i’m not a boob man (more a butts man), i rather follow ur arse in that case.

Dude, I remember those mornings with Deb (Jessica). And the ones with FD. And the shock (you played Fire and Rain)….. anyway, the programmes here in the desert pale in comparison to yours. So stop being a slut and sit your ass down in one place so that when I do get back, I know which freq to get you on……

It seems like 91.3 is destined to fail as a station if decisions that result in such things as ‘Shake and Bake’ continue. (What a dumb show name anyway. Shake = Sheik, Bake = ? I suppose they can’t call it “shake and walk”, so there’s nothing for poor Suzanne at all.)
I like Suzanne Walker, but I think she does better solo than with a partner.
Sheik, however, is cannot-make-it.
To end, I’m just glad you will back on radio again, Joe.

Woohoo Joe! I think I’m a stalker following you through all the stations…although I may have only sms when you when you were in 91.3 and next time at Power 98 also I’ll sms you via 98209800 ( free, yeay ).
Joe, I also have a picture taken with you at a STOMP launch…stalker right.
Anyhow, really hope the tracks are to our taste as the “kids” listen to 98.7 and they are at school during the morning show.

Actually, Joe you didn’t make the wrong move by joining WKRZ 91.3, I only listened to that station because it was good after Class 95 got worst. It made me know you and Petrina on the Morning Show as I was a listener ever since WKRZ was on air. And I so glad that my mornings were great all the way. With both intelligent talk and great music I was happy when you joined WKRZ. But I have to suffer another blow again after what the Programme Director has done. Losing a great talent on 91.3FM. I will definitely tune in to the new morning show on Power 98 as I really hate the Shake And Bake show, as it has the most horrible DJ on board, Sheikh. Poor thing Suzanne, I actually love her for such lively and entertaining voice.

Since your departure from 91.3, i hv been channel surfing and even tuning in to the malaysian networks but of course 91.3 is no more on my pre-stationed list. Listened to the first show with Hossan and Shireen. Lived up to its promise of providing great radio – enjoyed my ride all the way into work!
Like I said before when it was J&P on the morning show, the other radio stations might as well save their money and just start their transmission at 10 instead!

A few weeks ago my daughter and I were driving to work, in the early morning, and notice a unfamiliar tension and apprehension within the car??!!!

oh man, i should have read this blog earlier….
we were away in a neighbouring country for a week, many radio stations to tune in to, but nothing to rave about…
we’re back and so we tuned in yesterday morning and well, let’s just say that the new show sucks… haven’t got the faintest idea what they’re saying actually…
I’ve never really liked instant stuff that tells you to just “shake n bake” anyways, those thingys always leave much to be desired and hence, I’m always the “start from scratch” mama..
so, anyhoots, we’ll definitely tune in to power tomorrow!!

darn, i had the shock when i just found out the show was disbanded. besides coffee and air, this was the next best reason to wake up each day. well, at least one half of the pet-joe combo is still on air.

From 2006 to 2008, the 2 years, you and Petrina has gave us laughter and happines in our lives especially when we need that in the morning including the morning bad mood/monday blues!
