But my favourite theory about our sudden departure…
It was a hoax.
Well, the news is finally out – on the radio and in the New Paper.
I have always had respect for Sheik Haikel for his creative career – we worked together on a few things in the past. And it was funny how I had spoken to him about doing the morning show with me the week before I was fired. I was impressed with how he was speaking as though he was already on the show – saying he was all set to commit – despite his other showbiz interests.
I thought I was interviewing for a new partner.
He may have had a different perspective on the conversation.
Looking back, it is quite possible that a decision had already been made.
And to be very clear to you – I don’t believe that, at that time, Haikel had any idea of the plan to replace me. So I hold nothing against him. And neither should you. (As to who you should hold something against… is something I will save for another day, when I am less likely to say something really shocking).
Do I have advice for Haikel?
Get it in writing.

All i can say is that i certainly have no intention to tune into the NEW morning show,
what a joke!!
dont they learn from past mistakes….im afraid to say im certainly no fan of either of them!!
they just dont cut it!!

Just went to 913 website and still got photo of Joe and Petrina leh….
Check the morning show hosts – still Joe and Petrina leh….
Wahlau, your boss fire people so fast but update back….oops…website so slow one ah?
Anyway, Joe and Petrina, consider doing your own show on the net lah…
Just start your own radio station on the net and I will subscribe to your feed one….
I am sure that you will get enought support to find advertisers to make your show profitable…..
Some toilet paper company may already be thinking of calling Petrina liao…

I don’t have anything against Sheikh Haikel but I do think he is more of a visual entertainer…if you know what I mean.

Haikel is a great guy. I never got a chance to listen to his show with Daniel (because I was also doing a morning show at the time), but he must have had something to offer radio.
I for one am looking forward to hearing what the show has to offer.

Methinks the suggestion above for an internet-radio show is an excellent one. Not sure how the call-in bits would fit in but heck it’s a start.
Internet Radio reaches wider audience and i tune in myself to several in the US, Middle east (just for fun) and it’s a great way to get the beat of the place

joe i agree, you and pet could dabble with internet shows and podcasts, like maybe once a week. like how mr brown used to do it.
i’ll tune in to the morning show just once, to find out whats going on. i guess the best advice for heikal would be: get them to get joe and pet back on the show. if not, im gone.

I think a Joe & the Sheikh show would have been a promising replacement. Anyway I tuned in this morning to check out the show and heard how nervous the Sheikh was, and how he had to run to the loo. I don’t know man….

i’m not listening to morning show of 91.3 yet. I’ve switched to show my unhappiness but I do listen to the married men show.

I’ve nothing against Sheik Haikel, he is reli funny on Football Crazy……but honestly we need more intellectually funny goofy listening.
Like what Alvin said,and I agree, he is more of a visual entertainer (becos of his size :0 )
Haiz, sad…..after 95, jump to 98 then to 91.3…….and now got to wait…….even if its a JB radio station…….I dun mind

I tried tuning into the morning show this morning to catch the new team. Couldn’t find anything special from other teams, although sheikh and suzanne did try hard. A very mediocre start and certainly missing what P&J always had to offer. Maybe it’s just the first day to judge, but I have the reservations about the new team. P&J, I hope you guys come up with something soon… Cheers..

today i listened to the new b/fast show, against the better of my judgement… well momma said, ‘if u not nothing good to say, then shada’ellup.’ will stick to wise words of wisdom for now. but i AM following you two closer than ever before now tt youre no longer on air (moral of story: u dunno what you’ve got til’ you lost it)… well at least this blog channel allows us some insight on the real deal. do come back on air/vodcast/what hv you soon… wish you bth all the best!

i hope someone will broadcast the ratings of 91.3 at the end of the month, just to highlight the loss of ratings with the departure of our EX- morning show hosts… if they think tt we singaporean listeners just take anything tt the media owners throw at us, *waves index finger*, we are more discerning than u think… and with the internet, we have an endless sea of choices. you wanna convince your advertisers? shouldve worked something out instead of firing.

Well.. the show has started.
I tune in this morning to find out how is it going… BAD… completly sounds un-prepared. Seems like Suzzane do the whole show, she do the news, sports, traffic and almost everything…
Have to agree with Alvin, Haikel should just stay on TV..
Joe… somehow you and Pet is the king and queen of the breakfast show.
No matter what they’ve done, the vibe won’t be the same anymore.

@fern: My suggestion to the interaction element would be by emails.
The only thing is that people who send in their emails need to expect that they will only be addressed in the online show on the following week.

Waited with loads of anticipation for the new morning show but within minutes were terribly disappointed.
Susan is always great but “whatz his name” is just a BIG 0 Zero. A real bad Mgt decision, the “——“ should be canned instead.
Missed those times where morning rush hour traffic doesn’t bother me!
Missed those time where I actually looking forward to Monday morning!
Missed those time where I laugh out loud during morning drive! (great way to start the day)
Missed those time where I sat in the parking lot for another 5 mins more of your show!
Now I can only tune to SQ inbound flights (Ch 7).
I would love to have P&J work on a morning talk show, no music, talk/joke anything and everything under the sun. Lots of such stations overseas but none here.
I guess I’ll get me a DAB radio instead.

Just came back from Penang and only now am I getting the clear picture.
I myself was in a similar situation as Joe, being cut off from a source of income by a power hungry individual.
The feeling of betrayal really sucks. But boy am I glad that Joe and Petrina can still communicate with us here.
BTW, how does one get to be a guest on your new radio show?

i second your idea. i think the whole unravelling was already set in motion once you guys were back fr unexpected australia.
it’s just strange/ironic that petrina and you didn’t detect anything.
haven’t heard the show, as i’m just back fr KL. but i think they’re gonna try and marry the elements from the papers into the show (i think you’d know better than any of us, if they’d brought it up to you before). which may or may not appease the crowd. the odds are stacked, because the personalities and the content may not totally come together imo. i’m still not sure if suz can pull off a show like this. they shld’ve passed her a lady-focus show (like bringin in that her world editor to chat with her etc) to play with, and leave other segments for the rest of you.
but, time to move on for the rest of us. and prove otherwise on the decisions by those upper levels.

Totally agree with D Low. Used to sit in the car even after arriving at work cos couldn’t bear to turn off the radio! Now can’t bear to turn it on…Actually I stop driving my car altogether in the morning, cos dunno which station to listen to. So fed up.
okok I admit…the petrol price also had to play a part. But I really really miss joe & petrina! You are a gem. You should make a comeback soon so that I can start driving again. Joe, since you’re so influential (read “tua liap”)as described in talkingcock, could u “influence” the petrol prices too??

elliott’s off air for 2 wks. reservist. so one less able helper to deal with news and traffic.
as for BT, i’d find out tomorrow what he’s up to. but he’s too new to handle the scale of such a scale.
the whole idea is simple. 6 mths, give and take. can suz and sheik carry the show and maintain some decent ratings like rod and his gang? or will the whole thing end up like what p98 is doin now?
then again, for all you know, suz may just hang on to the morning show for good. she never left wkrz as it evolved, she may not leave the morning slot at all. unless the ratings tell the real story to someone in there who has some common sense.
i wish joe’d come up with some ideas someday why it happened, and if he really did mess up something somewhere. sorry if i’m going in another direction. after all, we’re humans. even i screw up myself at times. and i end up explaining and making up to my clients.
but the ‘holding against’ part… i reckon has to be a lady or an ang mo. or both.

9:26am -Tuned into 913.
Music playing.
9:27 am – music goes off – voice comes on. It’s Suze. Then a raspy voice comes on. It’s Sheik. Speak speak – he repeats himself and what Suze has said.
9:28 am – Music starts. I turn down the volume.
9:32 am – Turn volume back up. It’s them talking again but I can’t make head or tail what they’re talking about. Volume down.
9:45 am – Volume up. They’re playing some game. It’s painful listening to the contestant & hosts.
9.46 am – I punch out and listen to my ipod.
10 am – reach office in a foul mood. Why is there no more good radio in this country?
In Australia – Fox FM and Mix FM had loads of talking. Virgin radio in London had Pete & Geoff in the morning – more talking. Everyone talks in the morning – it’s a way of getting your morning started. I don’t want more music – give me something intelligent & funny to listen to.
No offence to Shiek & Suze – but they’re meant for another time slot. Just not the morning. Is the boss reading this?
Bring back Petrina (part time lah) and Joe.
Singapore can’t be that gooned.

Thanks goodness there is still this blog to keep in touch with you guys. Like several ppl above me, I have also switched away from 91.3 morning show and listening to only married men.
Face it, they are the last anchor act in this station.

I tuned in on Monday morning just to hear the new show. Aaaargh! Horrible.
I immediately turned on my MP3! No more 91.3 for me. Sheikh is definitely not right for radio. I was shocked when I read the papers on Saturday!
Joe & Petrina cannot be replaced!

Read some of the blogpost and Hossan Leong’s comment even goes to suggest abt Joe starting a station on your own.
I know, it’s not going to be easy, there’s licensing from MDA, a lot of capital injection, transmitting, etc.
But Joe, if you hunt around for investors, I think you won’t have a problem raking in the budget needed to start a station and I believe with your experience, your radio life and knowledge, etc, you’ll be able to get the investors’ money back (from advertisers etc) while at the same time provide your loyal listeners the best radio can give.

I live in Brisbane Australia now and when I feel homesick, I will tune in to radio 91.3 and when I did last week, I heard both Joe n Petrina were on vacation. So I tried tuning in again this morning, but was so shocked and disappointed to hear Sheikh and Suz on the morning show!! I tuned out straightaway! Why Why Why? Mornings are not the same anymore. I love the chemistry between Joe n Petrina, even from their Class 95 days, you guys made me laugh so hard all the time. You need to get back together again on a radio show soon! PLEASE!!!!!
