Where is Petrina and Joe?

I guess some of you might be wondering why we’ve suddenly disappeared on air, even though all you’ve heard from us is that we’re just taking one week’s leave.
Before the rumours get real silly, I thought I’d set things straight since I kinda started the ball rolling.
So here we go…
Once upon a time, Petrina Kow decided to do too many things at once. She was hosting the morning show, running the household, taking care of two kids, and directing two pre-school animation series. After many weeks of no-sleep and frantic schedules and wrinkles that started popping up in hitherto unforseen places, plus the fact that there was no toilet paper in the house, (and she didn’t even realise it!) Petrina Kow decided it was time to give something up.
Since she can’t really give up her children or her husband (or the toilet paper) she had to make the rather painful decision to give up her beloved morning show with Joe. It was not an easy decision but it had to be made. She then took a week’s leave to visit relatives in Taipei and celebrate her son’s first birthday, and was all set to return to the show for what was to be the last week of the Morning Show with Petrina and Joe, where she was going to do a proper explanation to her beloved listeners and they’ll understand, and they’ll also ‘kuai kuai” listen to her and love Joe’s new host and all will be fine, life moves on, she’ll be back when she’s got more time…etc.
However, two days before going back on air, she was told that she didn’t need to come back anymore.
And several days later, Joe was told to leave.
So these are the facts, as I know it so far.
To all of you the silent majority who wake up every morning chuckling along to our friendship. Thank you for the wonderful times, thank you for the laughs, thank you for making the sacrifices worth it and mostly thanks for listening!

I went back to my country for a vacation. Then when I went back here and listen to my favorite morning show, Joe and Petrnia were gone! I searched in the net for any news about the show until I read Petrina’s blog..Hay..I am disappointed. Hope to hear you soon guys! I am missing your morning conversations. My way to work is not complete without hearing you guys. Petrina and Joe you are the best!

It’s true, my first reaction is exactly like Jay Tee: Wah Piang! Again got to change radio station! Aiyo… dunno how many times liao… Joe faster start your own radio station. No need to change anymore in the future. .. If not for Petrina & Joe… that station will still be know as the ah beng station!

I leave the country for 2 weeks and come back to find my fave am station TOTALLY F’d.
I needed the am fix as I send my kids to school, but it looks like my CD and my rips of Mr. Brown will have to serve as the medium for the corruption of my kids in the long drive in.

Joe – any station, any time. We’ll spread the word and shift (like I followed from you *previous* station.

This is the best morning show by far! Are the powers that be absolutely mad?
I reckon the tone for the show has been set and even if one (admittedly very valuable) partner leaves, the show can still go on. There have been many precedents in the past – Denise (sp?) stepping in when Petrina was on maternity leave being one very close to home.
Just out of a little helplessness and a lot of stubbornness, I’ve set up a Facebook group to show some support. Do join ‘How dare they fire Joe Augustin’ – perhaps those goons in management will reconsider if the numbers are good enough…
Or was there some other reason no one’s telling us?… Whatever, you’ve lost my morning listening, 91.3…
Meanwhile, all the very best to you both – you will be sorely missed.

Though I am not complaining about the current duo on the morning show, I must admit I was waiting for Joe & Petrina’s return.
The only reason why I even started on 91.3 was purely for Joe & Petrina’s morning show. It was the show that got me started to the station.

What the hell?? Joe is like the best DJ there has got to be on Radio now. You 2 are the best that has ever come by radio for a long time since Silly Glen and I’m still Young Dutchman. Those 2 aren’t even close.

No offence to the other guys(and gals), The Married Men Rock, Suzanne i so love you on the afternoon show. Thunderboy needs alot of help…seriously. And the new morning show at the moment isn’t cutting it close but…thats life isn’t it. It sucks but…you yes the management of 91.3 you better start listen up there are lots of angry listeners out there and being the only radio station that just lost its “Anchor Tenant” you are in deep trouble. If not for The Married Men you can jolly well go back to being the “JiDooJiDoo” WKRZ Ah Beng radio station.
Bring Joe back! And Petrina, Family always come first and I support your decision totally. Nothing is more important than family, but they way you both are being cut off air is alittle too much to stomach at the moment!

professionalism (or lack thereof) aside, i just wanna say thanks for everything. nothing lasts forever (though that was really one short stint!), and it’s bad that i had taken so long to tell you guys how great you 2 are. i’ve been listening to your show since the JA/FD/PK days at 95. and when you resurfaced with Joe, i was so damn happy! anyways, i hope to hear your voices again soon. we will always love yous!!

Joe, u r the man!! The Cristiano Ronaldo of the air waves(skills not lokks, HAHA) no one on Spore airwaves stands anywhere close to your standards. Joe, what didcha do…now? huhn…? answer back izzit? haiyah, so many yrs, never learn ah, don’t answer back to authority. They where got wit – only got Dollar $ign in front. Sigh.

This is an outrage! How dare they do such a stupid thing to both of you, Joe and Petrina! I have sent in a message to 91.3 to let them know that they’ve made a HUGE HUGE mistake! Don’t they have any brains at all? Petrina, I completely empathise and support your decision to take care of your family first. As for Joe, please know that I feel for you. You are such a great DJ and they can do this to you! But knowing how resourceful you are, I’m sure you will be able to find a new way, with God’s help. Joe and Pet are possibly the best duo on air at the moment. I’m staying off 913 forever. How high-ended can they get?! Probably run by scholars who have no clue how things work, apart from what they’ve learnt from textbooks.

Its such a radio tragedy, a story of mighty (and) arrogant corporates refusing to listen to the people that help build it to where it is. and the manner that it was done, yuck! such a shame 91.3!

It’s such a shame that possibly the best morning show crew has parted ways due to one reason / excuse or another. Read the “official” report on the TNP and I went WTF? There should be at least a farewell morning show but… Aiyah, no point saying so much already…
Oh well, whatever it is, it’s over. Hope that we’ll hear from you two real soon…

As far as Im concern, there’s NO OTHER morning show like Joe&Petrina’s. These two are a class act. Both witty, intelligent, a good match.
91.3FM is DOOMED without them now.
Only brainy DJ there left is Jeremy Ratnam. If he’s gone too, they should just close down the damn station.

Haven’t listened in for awhile as the husband and i have been in London for past 6 months and the time difference didn’t allow much morning show listening which we sorely missed. Then i tuned into The Married Men today and heard that bizarre filler from Jamie…? I was devastated! i called the busy husband at the office to share the trauma.. -_-
Life will never be the same.. I wish we had stayed up late to listen to your shows when we got here, what regret! Will miss you guys!!! Sob!!

The only reason I listened to 91.3 was because of you Petrina! You disappeared one morning and I found myself unconsciously listening to other stations. Since then I switch to 91.3, don’t hear your voice, and switch to other stations.

I just read the news and I’m still reeling in shock. And to think I was planning a big impressive demo to send to the station to see if I could get on the air with you guys! You’ve probably heard this a million times before but indeed you both had the best morning show in radio history and I am really sad that I won’t have your cheery company to perk up my dreary mornings.
Would you believe me and my gf just recommended a Burger King outlet to improve their ambience by tuning in to 91.3??? Had we known the injustice you both have been subjected to, we certainly wouldn’t have done that. I think this definitely calls for a boycott!

Quite frankly, I don’t know what the top brass at 91.3 have for brains. The least they owe the listeners is to allow Petrina and Joe to say a proper farewell. What’s the rush? And what kind of crap of an explanation they give to the newspapers! What’s wrong with partnering Joe with someone else? Even Eliot can do a reasonable job. I so very angry!
Personally, I consider Joe and Petrina the best male and female DJs on this generation and there’s nothing even close across the airwave. I switched from Class 95 to 91.3 when JA&PK started this show and I really can’t see myself going back. Tomorrow onwards, I’m listening to BBC.

You guys… My girlfriend told me about what happened a few hours ago. This is so shocking. If Petrina is leaving cos of her other obligations, why do they have to get Joe to leave. Losing ONE of our (me + gf) favourite morning show hosts is bad enough, but how can we cope with TWO? Is there a real/true reason that Joe was made to leave? There wasn’t a real explanation in the new paper write-up.
You know, I’ve always remembered 91.3 as the techno station that only the lians and bengs from back then, swear by. *shivers* And truthfully its only because of the morning show with Petrina and Joe that made me realise that it is the NEW 91.3, and things have changed. Got me Hooked in no time! Unlike other DJs, who are either lame or just well, Blah!… Pet and Joe appeal to the listeners’ logic, plus their jokes are totally enjoyable (read: Super funny lar…)!
Please Joe… If you can open a radio station. Don’t hesitate. I bet all avid fans of the morning show would tune in and the advertisers would be begging to be on your station.

And I was wondering why the morning show suddenly changed, this is so disappointing. You guys have the number 1 morning show hands down confirm plus chop. How can the powers that be do this to us??? You guys are the best, there is no other radio show out there which comes even remotely close to the intelligent conversation and humour that you bring. Taking you off air is an absolute scandal. WHY?
They were given such short notice, the listeners didnt get to hear their goodbye.

Sigh, just when i was about to totally swtich over to the morning show in 91.3 from the Silly Crass 95 where the fakers of the morning reside… and this happens.
Im full of conspiracy theories..and im quite sure the management of 91.3 didn’t just let their 2 best DJs just go off like that. Just common sense.. would u cut off ur remaining arm just cos the other arm had to be amputated?
Im not saying Petrina is lying or the reason for her leaving the show isn’t all it is, but im sure there is some underlying reason which they don’t want us listeners to know.
But all those aside..we will miss u for sure..it was headed to being the best show in the morning and its sad that the plug had to be pulled so prematurely..
1 thing for sure..Joe will come up with something else..like he has in the past..and gd luck to Pat and her adventures with her family..

you guys are the reason why i tune into that radio station… Come back 1 week after my job stint and hear this kind news… Really disheartening. Been following you guys through various stations since young… Nothing can compre to you guys.

Hi Joe and Petrina,
I just want to say that it’s real sad that the best morning show on this island had its plugged pulled so abruptly.
Just looking at all the comments posted on this topic is testament to how great you guys were.
My wife and I (me especially) have really enjoyed listening to your program. At times, I grudgingly get out of the car after I reach work.
I hope you guys will seriously consider doing a podcast in the near future.

This is a big mistake indeed! We actually switched from mp3 to The Morning Show, just like many people here. I guess it’s time to go for 97.6 a Malaysian Channel already. Damn.

As usual, the corporate radio world is filled with idiots and people who think they know how to run a radio station!
You guys kept me entertained and made me laugh like a crazy woman on the train with your funny jokes & banter…on many occasions I had to stifle my laughter!!
I’ve followed Joe from Class 95, to Power98 & finally found him on 91.3 and was soooooooooooooo happy, then with Petrina as his partner absolute icing on the cake….you guys are soooo good together….Joe, you are an absolute gem of a radio DJ…the best in the business!!

OK, I’ve decided not to be the silent majority and will drop a note. Totally agree with all the other views above.
I must also let you know that you’re the reason (well, one of the main reason) that I managed to complete my first marathon last year. Started my training sometime Oct 06, and was most delighted to have you guys for company. You kept me going on my daily morning runs before work. In fact some mornings Joe was away, I just had to skip training that day. Heh, some friends even suggested I request for Joe to accompany me in Chicago and do the morning show while riding a scooter (v v slowly) alongside me! Anyway, it totally sucks that I no longer have any favorite station to listen to, and it’s irritating to channel surf while driving. Please get back on the air asap, it’s doesn’t matter with which station, because I’ll tune in regardless. Thanks Petrina & Joe

Sigh….and this was the one thing I looked forward to every morning as I get ready for work.
I actually like listening to you guys banter more than the music itself.
And now I have no idea what to do when I get into the car in the mornings. There are just no other stations with as good a morning show. Your morning show has definitely converted many other people to 91.3, I know I played a part by introducing it to some.

Yup, PODCAST is definitely the way to go from here.
It doesn’t have to be a full length show like radio and you don’t have to do it everyday. Which means more time for the more important priorities.
Best of all, listeners can keep listening to you both again and again.
Not to mention you can be much, much more liberal with what you say.

I think the station owes us a good explanation on this saga. If they decided to terminate Joe (and prevented Petrina to bid her farewell), why are they broadcasting those “thank you on behalf of the station blah blah blah…”? It’s really fake of the station to do this. I really can’t imagine what had actually happened between Joe and the management but I’m sure there must be quite a storm stirred to come to this situation. Joe, could you come up and say something? Petrina had said something, that Jamie had said something, but I feel you need to bring some justice back for yourself. Love u guys… Pls tell us your next plan. Tks.

When the wait for you folks to come back stretched to 2 weeks, I started to get real “withdrawal syndromes”! Think it’s super duper crap that 91.3 did this kind of nonsense (dropped them a mail to give them a piece of my mind!). I’ve been following Petrina since she move to Class 95 (Cooking with the Kow, etc.) and was mortified when she left, but appreciated why.
I was overjoyed to hear she was back on air as I think Petrina Kow is the best radio DJ in Singapore. She always brings the best out of the people she works with and I’ve grown fond of Joe A too, even though I didn’t have much time for him in his days with Jessica Soo.
Alas, Petrina’s sexy voice and razor sharp wit are no more to be heard in my bathromm and car in the mornings.
So what are we left with?
Gold 90 FM? So nineties with Hamish and Maggie back together again.
Class 95? Unbearable.
Power 98? For the under 10’s
Looks like I’m joining the rest and going back to the MP3 player…
I will never listen to 91.3 again.
I really hope you will both be back on the air eventually. Until then, my radios will remain silent.

I came across Joe and Petrina by accident while station surfing cos I got sick of a certain Ego on the other station. That was 6 months ago. And now when I thought I found a “home” station, it’s gone. Arrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with all the above comments, u guys do host an awesome morning show compared to the rest of the stations.I did give a listen to the “New Morning Show”, and man what was the management of 91.3 thinking of bringing in Shiek Hiekel. His diction sucks, the fella cant speak english properly, and honestly, the chemistry btwn the 2 is just not there at all…this morning show i can say will not make it for long…U guys hosted a tight show with some really good antics to keep us entertained..Joe, do drop me a line..hope u still have my number..wishing u guys the best in ur future endeavours..As Petrina would say..embrace the Circle of Hapiness..

My wife and I miss you guys sooooo much.. All the radio stations do not have the flair and fun the way you guys put it all together..
The current 91.3 DJs, Sheik Hiekel, is horrendous.. It’s ohhh so painful trying to listen to him stutter.
Nothing out there can even compare to the both of you. I’m back listening to my CDs instead. Sigh.. Just to let you know how we feel when you guys were on the air..

I’ve been out of the country for the past couple of months and on my first morning drive back to work i turn on the radio fully expecting to hear you guys…and you’re NOT THERE!! More than a few frantic phone calls later, the full story emerges. I’m truly despondent – so much so that i’ve abandoned morning radio altogether and am now listening to downloaded music on my ipod on the way to work. But i do support your decision Petrina. Maybe when the kids are grown, we’ll see you and joe again in a new radio incarnation!

The morning crew now on 91.3fm is not that good as your morning show used to be. 91.3fm really needs Joe and Petrina morning show if not, listerns will ran away and tune to other radio station morning show. You guys are the role models and made my day very very happy in the morning when i listened to even though i’m busy or stress out! and you guys can proved to me that at that time 91.3fm still rocks and did an amazing marvellous radio show even though it’s not a MediaCorp station. Petrina, you should had not quit. You should had taken a long leave just to clear your head and come back to do the radio show. There’s not need to quit the radio show. You already did once in 2002 when you were in class 95 and now, it’s already twice! ++ Even if you quited, the boss of 91.3fm, should not had let go Joe but let him stayed and work out on the morning show. Now, the only good deal on 91.3fm are when Suzanne Walker and The Married Men are not that! Now, The Morning Crew really sounds crap and boring and lots of nonsense to me just like how Lil Rounds performs on Amercian Idol. Come back Joe and Petrina on 91.3fm.
